somebody actually put into words my sentiments on machel's offerings for 2011.his material is just not on par with the quality we know and love him for.
i concur with the rest of this post as well.it's our damn fault we welcoming back de savannah stage with the crap artiste's (i use that word loosely) giving us for 2011.
This is good but it should be changed to "trinidad soca."Then again trinis believe their island is the only island in the carribean as well as the only island who produces good soca music.

I agree in general with #10, except that there ARE some competent soca singers who came out of the DJ booth. And Shal is one. He's had many decent songs, he's put in time, he's worked hard and has improved a LOT. He is working hard on his craft, and has taken stick for many years. He's not a jump in without washing foot kinda fool. So I disagree with your using his photo to illustrate.

ALl of a sudden certain radio djs decide they want to be artist too!!! when it have nuff artist out here who doing a better job than them and because these artist is not radio djs , they not getting much air play!! based on ethics a radio dj should not be allowed to work for a station and be an artist at the same time!!

these people on imix is problems just there to bad mouth artist dont care what the artist artist sing good songs the bad mouth them now it reach who win what it have so many talented artist out there that live outside of the islands and all the do is try to keep them down just to name two LYRIKAL and / RAGGA all their songs are are good but they still get fight down who cares about who win we have no control over that lets try to help artist with talent instead of supporting shit songs and then saying how come soca not going mainstream

You may need some correcting...Iwer didn't win a Road March with "Hand (anananananananananananan x 45 lol). That was the year that Shadow won both RM and Soca Monarch and placed 2nd in Calypso Monarch (2001) - a final and glaring reminder of what "good" soca was.
The trend of soca-dancehall collaborations actually started in 1994 with "soca Butterfly" by Byron Lee featurng Admiral Bailey, and continued with "Weakness For Sweetness" (Remix) by Nathalee Yorke and Mega Banton in 1996 - both of which weren't tht bad. Then you had "Jump And Wine" by Beenie Man in 1998 (which can still stand on its own). "Rubber-waist" is mediocre and a poor example.
Ultimately, bad soca isn't our fault either. In a discussion I had with my sis, she emulated the same argument that the artist can only deliver what we demand.
The last time I checked, the artist had the power to shatter our conventions and challenge us to see something differently.
Word, dude! It's madness that Destra has no Soca Monarch or Road March titles (I will still answer to Bacchanal any time); KMC has had some really strong music, including this year ("Wha make yuh feel yuh woulda get away"); and I will never understand how music that manages to get airplay despite all the obstacles then isn't played on the road... And why aren't Jouvay tunes actually played at Jouvay??

@morgs I stand corrected. Iwer did not win road march with that song. I thought he sang that the year he tied with Super Blue but I was incorrect. I stand by my rubber waist argument though because it was the first high profile dancehall soca collaboration and was the one that started the trend.
